The Winner of the IVY LEAGUE SMACK DOWN is.....

Miles Wood of Boston College... Thought he had an excellent game and was one of the few bright spots for the Devils. And I don't think BC is quite Ivy League...

Vesey was better then Lappin but they both played a nice game.

I didn't think the Rangers were icing a stronger lineup per se but they certainly looked like the better team for almost the entire game. How everyone has passed up on Pirri is just shocking. His shot was lethal and the played a great game.

The Devil's speed is certainly much better then years past under Hynes. Rangers look exactly the way you expect an AV to look. Wedgewood was certainly fighting it all night. Tough for him because of the backup competition. Would have liked to see Blackwood get a period in goal.

Anything could happen if Schneider is healthy and plays to his potential. Going to face more shots this year most likely, but the offense should be a bit better.

They played over their heads last year. They were a worse team than what the record wound up. I think they are going to stink this year, which I'm fine with. I'd rather stink while getting future pieces NHL experience than stink with Tuomo Ruutu, Tooto and Farnham in the lineup regularly.

I was at MSG last night and I'll be in Newark for the rematch Saturday.
I thought Frenchie looked really good and liked Mozik's game. Greene didn't look good. Not sure if it was playing with Lovejoy and trying to contribute offensively.

Not sure what to expect this year. The team speed is greatly improved but I'm just thinking they'll be a fringe playoff team. I thought the Ranger's window might be closing but they look like they'll be real solid again.

Devils have some nice young pieces, but keep in mind their record didn't show just how bad they were last year (Schnedier covered up a lot of it).

They were the lowest scoring team in the league last year and even if you added Halls 26 goals they would still be 5th lowest. They only averaged 24 shots a game last year. The team has broken up a pairing that handled all of the tough minutes last year when they traded Larsson and are depending on an awful lot of unknowns. I think it's great to get the kids playing time and getting rid of the dead weight is a big step forward, but I think this year is going to look like a rebuild year.
